Starved of football this week-end? No need to as Sunderland Ladies are “in town”, playing against Arsenal Women at Borehamwood F.C.’s ground on Sunday 12th November, with a 2.00 p.m. kick-off. The Lasses have started the season well, winning their two away games to date but this will be a stiffer test and has the added “spice” that it will be the first time they have faced former ace striker Beth Mead.
You may have read of the changes which the FA are proposing to the Women’s Super League, meaning that from 2018-19 only full-time teams will be accepted into the top tier. Having gone part-time earlier in the year as part of the parent club’s cost savings, a reversal of that decision seemed unlikely and the club announced yesterday evening that they would not be applying for a licence to compete but instead seek a new partnership for future seasons.
All the more reason then to come along and support the present team in their performances this season and demonstrate to the FA that on field success should be the principal factor in competition membership! The least the London Branch can do is to provide a good turnout there of strong vocal support!
Borehamwood’s ground, Meadow Park can be reached from Elstree & Borehamwood station which is served by half-hourly Thameslink trains with a journey time of 30 minutes from Central London. Turn right out of the station along the High Street, go straight over first roundabout, then left at the next roundabout into Brook Road. The ground is in Broughinge Road, about 500 yards along on your right.
