Sunderland Ladies final game in a relatively successful Spring Series was also a emotional farewell for long-serving captain Steph Bannon who had earlier in the week announced her retirement from professional football in order to concentrate on her career as a PE teacher. After 14 playing years with the club, the last 10 as captain, the tributes which poured in from throughout the game, including many who had left the club but appreciated the mentoring they had enjoyed from Steph, were testament to the huge respect in which she was held and the contribution she and her family had made to the growth of the club over those years.
The London Branch, sponsors of the team, wish Steph every success for the future.
